Eden is a smart pot that promotes more engagement to plant owners in plant care while offering automating plant care when needed.
The motivation of our product came from some of the frustrations that we were able to observe from other plant owners coupled with the possibility of increasing interest in combining IoT device alongside plants as well. Based on our initial need finding research, we were able to observe that there is a sizable demographics pertaining to plant owning hobbyist not only within University of Michigan but also across the state as well. Even though our primary demographic/persona were created based on the user research we conducted within our vicinity, our analysis and survey results indicated that many plant owners want to interact more with their plants as the overall experience is soothing and positive yet due to their lifestyle, schedule or other external circumstances (such as lack of plant information, caring experience etc.) made it difficult for them to engage and properly care for their plants. As a result, some of their plants would either die off and they buy a new one or the overall experience would discourage them from owning a plant entirely. Based on this observation and research, our team wanted to find a way in which we could still preserve the positive user experience associated with plant care process while simultaneously resolving the frustrations that comes with the plant owning experience as well.
